These pieces are all originals, I wanted the owner of each piece to know that their denim is completely one of a kind. They were created on a coffee table in my studio apartment and reflect what I was feeling or wanted to share at the time. Often I would have time to paint but no ideas. There is a strange balance between having a purpose to create and having a requirement to create that I had to face. I would search for inspiration on social media, look at friend’s pictures and scour old sketches. It is somewhat degrading to search for a spark that you cannot explain and never comes from the same source twice but once you find it you forget the journey. Once an idea surfaces I have to see it through, which often meant staying up late sitting on the floor hunched over a pile of denim. If you look on the tags they tell a small story about each piece.
I have made a strong effort to be sustainable in the creation of these pieces. All the denim is second hand and was washed in nontoxic vegan laundry soap, the tags are cards I found at thrift and antique stores and the only plastic involved are the paint bottles.
