WORLD WAR I CENTENNIAL VICTORY COMMEMORATION Description:
The Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula, and The Northern Rockies Heritage Center will host Montana’s World War I Centennial Victory Commemoration – The 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day on Sunday, November 11, Veterans Day 2018 at Historic Fort Missoula.

11 A.M. - The celebration will begin with the Missoula County Courthouse Doughboy Statue Ceremonies (location TBA) and the National WWI Centennial Committee “Bells of Peace” nationwide bell ringing at the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, Bldg. T-316, Fort Missoula.

12 P.M. - The Opening Ceremony will be at Heritage Hall and will include addresses by MT Secretary of State Corey Stapleton, U.S. Naval Academy Graduate and Major General Matt Quinn, Adjutant General, Montana National Guard.

2 P.M. - A book discussion with Ken Robinson, author of WW I Montana: The Treasure State Prepares (History Press, 2018) will take place at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.

4 P.M. - The celebration will return to the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History for an Illustrated Talk, “Clarence Streit: A Missoula Doughboy Looks To the Future” for it’s conclusion.

Additional Activities will include outdoor displays including a working WW I Renault Tank, courtesy Hayes Otoupalik, and a replica of a French “40 or 8” railway car, courtesy of American Legion Post #27. WW I films and documentaries throughout the day. Free Certificates of Appreciation to WW I veterans presented posthumously to all applying descendants at the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History (certificates may be requested by calling (406) 549-5346, please provide rank and branch of service).

Refreshments will be provided throughout the afternoon at all Fort Missoula locations. All locations are ADA Accessible.
