Sugar Skulls: Public workshops at the OAO Temple!

OAO Temple Haus
Sugar Skulls: Public workshops at the OAO Temple! Description:
SUGAR SKULL WORKSHOPS all this week:

You are invited to come participate in the annual sugar skull workshops at the OAO Temple Haus this week, all week long! These super-fun crafting nights are this Monday through Friday from 7-11pm at the OAO Temple at 9463 Upper Miller Creek Road in Missoula. Please feel free to stop by at any time during any of these evening events. These are also parade prep days, so we are thankful for everyone's help in making skulls to be freely distributed at the annual Festival of Remembrance Procession on Dia de los Meurtos in downtown Missoula (November 2nd: 6-8pm). Participants are welcome to take home a few of the skulls they decorate, in addition to helping assemble as many as you feel inspired to create for the parade! Everyone is invited to join in one or more of the crafting nights as well as to march with us in the parade and distribute sugar skulls, sugar cookies and good cheer! Fun Halloween films will also be screened during the workshops; feel free to bring or suggest your favorites!

Please note that these workshops and our group involvement in Day of the Dead traditions are intended as a fun, educational and community-bonding activities that honor the ancestors as well as Mexican, Central American and ancient Aztec traditions. It is through cross-cultural immersions such as these, that we can all come to better understand the world around us. OAO is blessed to have the support of many Mexican citizens and Hispanic/Latino-Americans.

What to bring: OAO encourages guests to bring snacks (organic/sustainable if possible) for everyone to munch on while crafting skulls. This is also a time of year when alcohol may be consumed (optional), and the most traditional drinks of the season are tequila and wine. (If you plan to drink, please do not consume over the legal limit unless your transportation is per-arranged. The events are all-ages, and one must be 21 to consume alcohol.)

These workshops are NO-CHARGE, however donations are encouraged and gratefully accepted, as they help us cover supply costs and labor. All donations are tax-deductible, and receipts are available by request (501c3).
