The Higgins Ridge Fire Description:
A free public panel presentation featuring 11 of the 14 remaining smokejumpers and the pilot in a riveting story of bravery, heroism and leadership. Trapped by a wildfire that blew up on Higgins Ridge, the entire 20 person smokejumping crew was sure to perish. However, a helicopter pilot knew they were in trouble, flew to Higgins Ridge on his own initiative, and in a series of landings, rescued all 20, taking 2 people with him in the cockpit while 2 hung on to the helicopter skids.
