Found Sound

Jennifer Ogden

Inspired by the exhibition Border Cantos we will use cardboard, wire, string, and other found materials to create sculptures that make a sound. When we re-combine these up-cycled parts and then tap, pluck, or blow into them we will discover previously unknown instruments.

The whole family is invited to make art together in these artist-led, free workshops. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure a spot. Children under seven should be accompanied by an adult. All materials provided—just bring an open and creative mind. Throughout the summer, MAM’s Saturday Family Workshops will collaborate with the CIVICKIDS initiative.

CIVICKIDS: Make Art. Make A Difference.

This is a year-long series of exhibitions, community events, and digital art calls hosted by Children's Museum of the Arts in New York City. Rooted in the belief that art builds empathy, understanding, and respect for others, CIVICKIDS aims to foster civic engagement and shared community pride through art making. Each month, CMA will issue a digital art-making challenge based on themes of civic engagement including environmentalism, identity, equity, leadership, sustainability, kindness, and freedom. Partnering institutions are invited to share photos of their audiences completing the digital challenge with #CMACIVICKIDS. The photos will be added to our online exhibition at cmany.org/civickids.
