Traditional Timber Frame Structures
are a combination of wood
posts, beams, and braces held together
with all wood joinery. Learn timber
frame joinery and design, as well as,
joint layout, and cutting with traditional,
modern, and specialized tools. You
will use “Square Rule” layout methods
to layout, cut, and assemble a timber
frame bent utilizing shouldered
mortise and tenon joinery at post ends
and knee braces. Students will also
use “Scribe Rule” Layout methods to
layout, cut, and assemble, a “Viking
Style” (Grindbygg) Bent utilizing open
bridle joints and laid in Braces.
