Wild Game Banquet, Lewis and Clark Lecture
6:00 PM (America/Denver)
Lolo Hot Springs Resort
Description:
Lolo Hot Springs Resort will host a wild game banquet and Lewis and Clark lecture on February 2nd. The dinner will feature foods that members the Lewis and Clark Expedition may have eaten during the winter of 1805.

“The first wild game dinner held last October was a rousing success,” said Brent Olson, owner of the Lolo Hot Springs Resort. “We received many compliments on the combination of a savory wild game meal, a lecture on Lewis and Clark by a local historian, and a soothing soak in our hot springs.”

This second wild game banquet will again feature food from the Lewis and Clark expedition, but the focus this time will be on foods that Lewis and Clark would have eaten during their winter on the Oregon and Washington coasts.

The dinner menu on February 2nd and will feature elk pot roast, wild salmon, stuffed crab, fingerling potatoes, and wild huckleberry shortbread cake. Wines and honey mead will be served with the meal.

Each dish will be accompanied by descriptions taken from the journals of Lewis and Clark.

Enhancing the evening experience will be a lecture by Francis Wiegand, a Lewis and Clark historian from Missoula. Wiegand will focus on the cold and rainy weather that the expedition endured on the Pacific Coast, and their experiences in harvesting local foods and boiling down seawater to make salt.
The cost of the meal and lecture will be $45.00 per person, which will include a free soak at the historic Lolo Hot Springs. Lewis and Clark described the hot springs in their 1805 journals, and the pleasure to be found in soaking in the hot water.
