MPL is pleased to host the Bear Bones Historians’ exhibit “Leiser’s Footsteps”, early January through February 11, 2022. The exhibit covers the history of Missoula’s original Jewish citizens, their contributions to Missoula’s growth and culture, and stories of hope and wonder. Highlights include: Early Jewish businesspersons such as Jacob Leiser; a Bitterroot Valley connection between the Salish people and the Kohn family; Daniel Bandmann’s contribution in making Missoula an “arts town”; Louis Levine’s tenure at the University of Montana, during which he studied taxation of the mining industry; American literature as seen through the writings of Leslie Fiedler; and Robert “Bob” Marshall’s efforts to preserve wilderness and recreational access for all. Exhibit research was conducted by chronicler of Montana Jewish history Bert Chessin, and panels were designed by Paul Kingsford. Together they’ve uncovered historically relevant photos that have never been seen publicly. Exhibit displayed on Level Four January 5 – February 11.
