Safety Pin Training
10:00 AM (America/Denver)
Jeannette Rankin Peace Center
Safety Pin Training Description:
The Safety Pin Training provides skills that help empower individuals to be effective allies to vulnerable individuals in situations of harassment, bullying and attacks.

The Safety Pin Training is the Diversified Intergrated Resiliency Training Center's (DIRT Center) response to the nationwide rise of intolerance and the call for people to wear safety pins to identify themselves as allies of targeted populations. We believe that people need to have appropriate skills so that they can be the effective and empowered allies they desire to be.

The training includes identifying and assessing incidents and harrassment, options for engagement including distraction, discussion, and de-escalation, physical advocacy (self defense/defense with the goal of getting away), and post-event support including connecting targeted people with local support systems and helping them through the police process if they decide to go that route.

Date & Time: December 10th, 10am-6pm. (We will take a long lunch from 12:45 to 2:15 so people who so choose can attend the Unity March hosted by the Missoula Solidarity Alliance.)

Cost: $40-100 No one turned away for lack of funds.
(The sustainable cost for this training is approximately $65 per person. However, we at the DIRT Center believe strongly that these resiliency skills should be available to everyone. So if you cannot afford it, please just let us know in your registration and if you have the economic privilege to do so, please pay on the higher end of the sliding scale to help keep trainings available to everyone.)
