A Finnish documentary movie, Steam of Life.
Directed by Joonas Berghall and Mika Hotakainen, the film opened in New York City and Los Angeles in 2010 and has now arrived at Missoula.

The Finlandia Foundation of Montana, also known as Montana Nordic Group, is excited to present the first Scandinavian movie night. Depending on the attendance, we have interest in providing our community with more Scandinavian movies in the future.

We had difficulties in deciding what movie to present, because there are many excellent Nordic producers and films, just to name a few recent ones: Known -a fearless comedy, Troll Hunter- another Scandi-comedy. And more serious movies such as King of Devil's Island, Headhunters, Antichrist, We are the Best, The Hunt... the list goes on...

But the reason why we chose this movie is to recognize the Centenary of Finland's Independence and its well over 100-year-old sauna culture. We've been part of spreading the word about the Centennial Finland in the USA, especially with the help of the Traveling Sauna. The Traveling Sauna, which is a wooden sauna trailer on wheels, has been touring North America since February 2017 and it also visited Missoula in April. Now we are delighted to continue this celebration by hosting a Finnish sauna movie night at the Roxy. And there are more celebrations to come, for instance, November 17, Scandinavian Happy Hour with a delicious Nordic menu at Burns Street Bistro.

We hope you'll join us for Steam of Life. We must say that there is so much that lies in this movie and in Finnish sauna culture in every aspect of life. There are routines, etiquettes, traditions, jokes and meanings, and we feel proud that the world is gradually starting to get to know the myths and truths of the Finnish sauna.
