\n
Learn how to translate your ideas into space in this imaginative handbuilding class. We will cover essential handbuilding techniques while developing the skills to explore a project of your own. Skills will include relief carving, hollow building human and animal forms, as well as an introduction to sculpting faces to convey emotion and expression. We will talk about ways to translate a drawing into space and develop the skills to sculpt from life, imagination and memory. Students will have the opportunity to scale up their work and experiment with their surfaces. This class is ideal for people who have some clay experience and want to focus on developing their voice, their handbuilding skills, and explore new ways of building figurative and animal work.\n
\n
These special sculpture studio classes offer more liberal access to open studio time for students to approach larger, more challenging pieces. 8 weeks of class will include hands-on instruction during designated class time, the last two weeks of the session will be independently scheduled by the instructor to coordinate firing and finishing times, and students will continue to have working access through the final two weeks, without scheduled class conflicts. \n
\n
Studio access outside of class meeting times for students enrolled in 1110-A Sculpture Studio programs will be available to students when other programs are not are not in session. Appointments will not be necessary, as classes will each have a unique code students are permitted to use to access the space throughout the class session between 8am-9pm.\n
\n
Requirements: Have taken a beginning pottery or other basic clay course, and have a handle on fundamental techniques such as score and slip, pinch pots, coils, and slabs.\n

Access to work in studio outside of class meeting time\n
Sculpture studio classes come with more liberal access to open studio time than a standard class. Your instructor will cover access hours and protocols with you on the first day of class.\n
