Description:
World Wide Cinema is MPL’s free monthly film series of first-run independent and foreign films. December’s film is "Dead Pigs," produced in China and the U.S and directed by Cathy Yan. Based on remarkable true events, "Dead Pigs" is a bitingly humorous social satire about the trials and tribulations connecting a disparate group of characters in the midst of a baffling nationwide mystery. The fates of an unlucky pig farmer, a feisty home-owner defending her property, a love-struck busboy, a disenchanted rich girl, and an American expat pursuing the Chinese Dream converge and collide as thousands of dead pigs are found floating down the Huangpu River, towards a modernizing Shanghai. Running time is 122 minutes. All films are shown in the original language with English subtitles.
Screenings are held the second Friday of each month. Doors are open from 6:15 - 6:45 and the film starts at 6:30, late entry is not allowed. Attendees must enter from the library’s parking garage, all other doors are locked. Screening is shown in Cooper Room A on Level Four. 6:30-9:00 PM
