UM HOLIDAY SWING AT THE DOWNTOWN DANCE COLLECTIVE - DECEMBER 8, 2018
‘HOME FOR CHRISTMAS’

The University of Montana Jazz Program is excited to announce that it will pair up with Missoula native Todd Kelly for an evening of fun holiday jazz entertainment at the Downtown Dance Collective. The 7th Annual Holiday Swing takes the event “Downtown” with a new location and some new great additions. It will take place at the Downtown Dance Collective (DDC), 121 W. Main St. on Saturday December 8th and will feature an internationally recognized trumpet soloist and Missoula native Todd Kelly, along with auction items, special surprises, and holiday big band favorites!
 
"Heather Adams and the DDC do a magnificent job with creating a festive atmosphere and having such great bands and music makes for a wonderful jump start to the holiday season," said Rob Tapper, UM Director of Jazz Studies and Director of the UM/Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival. "Moving this event downtown will give this evening some sparkle and allows patrons to enjoy great food nearby, easy parking, wonderful music with some classic holiday big band jazz favorites – this should be a blast!”.
 
One great new addition is the hour-long “Swing Set” at 3:00 PM for younger children and families to enjoy great holiday music, food and dance! Another addition is a “Meet The Artist” reception following the 9:00PM set held in the historic Florence Building and hosted by The Red Bird Restaurant at 111 North Higgins.
 
Todd Kelly is among the rare breed of artists who play in a variety of settings and styles including big bands, small groups, orchestras and movie and television soundtracks. He has performed with numerous jazz luminaries and has recorded with some of the busiest jazz artists in the business. It is an honor to welcome Todd to the stage for this very special holiday performance. Joining Todd at this wonderful event is the Zootown Cabaret as well as the UM Jazz Ensemble I under the direction of Rob Tapper.
 
The UM Jazz Ensemble I will perform some toe-tapping holiday favorites along with pieces featuring Mr. Kelly. This event occurs in part to raise money for the UM Buddy DeFranco Jazz Festival, UM jazz scholarships and to help with UM Jazz Program activities.
 
Along with the afternoon “Swing Set” at 3:00PM, there will be TWO SETS of music at 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Come and join us for an evening of jazz entertainment with one of Missoula’s own presenting holiday classics from Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Stan Kenton, as well as fresh and new big band tunes.
