John's love of the natural world began as a child in a small New England town. He spent much of his childhood exploring the woods and marshes near his home, in search of the critters that lived there.

As time went by, his wanderlust grew and decided to join the U.S. Air Force in 1979, in the hope of traveling the world. In 1981, while stationed overseas, John bought his first 35mm camera. Little did he know it would spark a lifelong obsession with capturing the world as he sees it, one frame at a time.
