A Music Mosaic: How Missoula Built Its Rockin’ Community
5:00 PM (America/Denver)
Zootown Arts Community Center
Description:
Since the 1960s, people in Missoula have cultivated a local rock scene that has become an important part of the fabric of the city. This historical exhibit explores how musicians, venue managers, journalists, and record store owners built institutions and pushed against conventions, paving the way for a vibrant local music scene. It foregrounds the important work and experience of women and native people. Missoula’s milieu drew musicians in and served as a launching pad for careers, both musical and non-musical. The memories and legacies of past musical venues, scenes, and events remain strong in the city today.
The exhibit is of work compiled by University of Montana students who conducted research and oral history interviews before writing and designing the exhibit panels. It is shown in connection with the Rock N Roll Concert and Music Memorabilia Showcase the following day.
