Description:
Fall 2026: Monday Open Instruction
Mondays, 6-9PM (September 14 to November 16, 10 classes)
Teaching Artist: Jesse Baggett
TUITION: $330 members / $345 nonmembers
For intermediate and above students wanting to create items in a self-guided fashion. Students must understand Clay Studio Student Policies or be willing to attend an orientation meeting with staff.
This is a purposefully unstructured, demonstration-based class giving students room to explore their own ceramic work! Students must be comfortable with the basics of working with clay independently. Instructors will be able to help and demo new methods, but cannot provide intensive instruction to replace a beginning class. Both throwing and hand building can be explored in this class. A professional artist in residence from the Clay Studio of Missoula will be present to give advice as you navigate your ceramic journey, and give demonstrations custom-designed to the class to improve your existing skills and further your goals. A great way for emerging makers to access the studio on a regular basis for their craft.
GOAL: Goals will vary from person to person, you will get out of this class what you put in.
NOT COVERED: Demonstrations will be chosen by the student group; each session will be different. No specific content is guaranteed.
INCLUDED:
First bag of clay
Access to community clay tools
Firing fees for all items made during 10-week class session (size limit- maximum 20" in any direction)
Access to open studio appointments for work time outside of class for the session duration
Teaching artist will cover how to sign up for appointments on the first day of class
Access to open studio appointments for about 1 month after the session for glazing only
Students must follow all studio health and safety guidelines. Student waiver required at registration or on the first day of class every session, and an up-to-date emergency contact must be provided for studio records.
