Ceramics 101 Description:
In this 6-week class, you will be introduced to the basic aspects of sculptural and functional pottery. Students will learn the skills and techniques necessary to work with clay. Emphasis will be placed on both hand building methods and throwing on the wheel. The course is designed for those with little or no clay experience.

You will learn about the different stages that clay goes through on its way to becoming a final glazed piece. On the wheel you will learn how to center clay, throw a cylinder and bowl, and finish/trim your work. For the hand building portion of the class, you will learn pinch, slab and coil building.

At the end of the course you will have the basic skills and general understanding to make a piece from start to finish.

We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings for six weeks beginning October 28th and ending December 9th. Note, there is no class the week of Thanksgiving, 11/23. This class is limited to 6 students!

Class fee includes: instruction, one bag of clay, open studio access for practice (7 days/week, 8am-10pm), and use of all tools, equipment, glaze, and firings. Anticipated projects include cylinders, mugs, and bowls.
