UM Jazz Program to Host Jazz Residency with Nationally Recognized Pianist/Composer/Arranger

MISSOULA, MT – The University of Montana Jazz Program continues bringing jazz composers, arrangers, performers and educators from throughout the international jazz community to the UM campus. The “Women & Changes” concert on Friday, October 25th celebrating female artists will be an event you don’t want to miss!
As Director of the award-winning Lawrence University Jazz Program, Patty Darling brings her extensive publishing awards, commercial recording and educational experience to the UM campus for three days of clinics, masterclasses and seminars culminating in a concert of her music along with choreography and dance.
The concert includes the UM Jazz Ensemble (I), UM Jazz Band (II) and the Lab Jazz Band (III).
Considered one of the leading composers/arrangers today, she has received awards for her compositions and arrangements from Down Beat Magazine, the Presser Foundation, the Eastman School of Music and the Wisconsin Arts Board. Her most recent compositions are published through Sierra Music.
The concert on October 25th features the three the UM Big Bands along with dance choreographed by Joy French and coordinated by Heather Adams along with special guests.
All three groups will be performing music composed and arranged by Patty Darling. “I can’t think of a better way for our students to experience the real world of incredible music with it being rehearsed and performed by one of the best composers and arranging mentors around”, says Rob Tapper of this event, continuing…”adding the element of dance and celebrating the amazing achievements of female artists is paramount not only in this community, but also our nation and the world”.
This wonderful musical event takes place on Friday, October 25th, at 7:30pm in the Dennison Theatre on the Missoula Campus.
