Join us for an insightful evening with J.M. Cooper, a celebrated Black and White documentary photographer with over 40 years of experience capturing Montana’s vanishing western life. Born and raised in Helena, Cooper developed his passion for photography after studying under the legendary Lee Nye at the University of Montana. This event highlights Cooper’s powerful photo series documenting the annual spring sheep shearing at Adel Ranch near Cascade, operated by the Sieben Livestock Company—five generations strong since 1864. Over three visits spanning 1995, 2000, and 2007, Cooper shot over 1,000 images on analog black and white film, hand-processed and printed with meticulous care.
