Uncovery CRAFT Classes Description:
What Is This Class?
Talking about substance use disorders or trying to help someone with an addiction is challenging and emotionally draining. Conventional methods of tough love or ultimatums don’t always work and are a thing of the past. It is time for a new approach.
Open Aid Alliance’s Uncovery is proud to announce a class that addresses this subject through a new light. Grounded in the Dr. Bob Meyer’s CRAFT Curriculum and imbued with harm reduction philosophy, our class utilizes lectures, open-ended discussions, and break-out activity sessions to teach skills to cope with existing problems and the context in which substance abusing behavior occurs. You will learn how to use positive reinforcers (rewards) and how to let a substance user suffer natural consequences for their using behavior. You will hone skills to improve your own health while staying loving, kind, and committed to a person using. Anyone who has or knows a friend, family member, youth, spouse or anybody affected by substances can benefit from this course.
Each curriculum will consist of 12, 1 ½ hour sessions. Our class will be led by Uncovery’s Sarah LaFont, MA Clinical Mental Health. The next class begins October 23, and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. Open Aid Alliance staff will complement the CRAFT curriculum with lessons in harm reduction and ways you can incorporate this philosophy into your interactions with a substance user. The fee for the class is $325, cash preferred, insurance may be accepted. All attendees will need to go through an intake/assessment with Sarah. Childcare may be available upon request.
