Lord of the Basses featuring Catalin Rotaru, bass Description:
The String Orchestra of the Rockies’ sensational 35th season opens with the internationally acclaimed double bass phenomenon, Catalin Rotaru. Born in Romania, Catalin travels the world dazzling audiences with his one-of-a-kind virtuosity on the bass, and we are thrilled that he is coming to Missoula to make his SOR debut in his own arrangement of the Haydn C Major cello concerto and several short concert pieces by Giovanni Bottesini. Our program opens with the melodic “Nocturne” of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, originally written as the slow movement of his double bass quintet, and we close our program with the “String Serenade” of Joseph Suk, a work inspired by Dvorak, who was his mentor and teacher. We hope to see you there as we start our 35th season of memorable music! For more information about the SOR including the season concerts and guest artists, please visit our website: www.sormt.org.
