Evening Lecture: A Big Year of Birding and Beyond Description:
Join us for a further exploration of the tradition of hunting and gathering, from food and clothing to the naturalist’s habit of creating collections. Each of our six speakers will share their expertise, from identification and use of the object of the hunt to identifying the landscape or phenology clues that will help hunters and gatherers to find what they’re looking for.

The speakers for our fourth lecture are birders and authors Sneed B. Collard III and his son, Braden. Sneed is the author of more than eighty books for children and adults including the beloved titles Shep: Our Most Loyal Dog; The Governor’s Dog is Missing; and Fire Birds: Valuing Natural Wildfires and Burned Forests. A junior at Hellgate High School, Braden is an Eagle Scout and has had his photographs published in a variety of books and articles. With his father, he co-authors the blog fathersonbirding.com. Join us for their lecture, A Big Year of Birding and Beyond. Sneed and Braden will share encounters with killer bees, hundred-year floods, and other birding adventures that led to Sneed’s acclaimed book Warblers and Woodpeckers: A Father-Son Big Year of Birding (Mountaineers, 2018). Along the way, they will discuss the many ups and downs of birding and offer tips for how to pursue this most accessible family nature activity.

Cost per lecture: $10; $5 members; FREE for high school and college students.
