MissCast Productions is excited to announce open-call auditions for LIZZIE. This production will be directed by Jasmine Sherman, music directed by Paisley Thornton, and choreographed by Mica Clarkson, and Meagen Hensley-Shapiro.
In the late summer of 1892, Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe. Testimonies were muddled, evidence was incomplete, and ultimately Lizzie was acquitted. Lizzie: The Musical delves into the mysterious mind of Lizzie Borden and speculates on the motivations she may have had: loss of inheritance, history of sexual abuse, overwhelming oppression, and madness. By her side is her older sister Emma, maid Bridget, and neighbor Alice. Together, the four women create a punk rock score to tell this grisly story.
Performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, orientations, and abilities, are encouraged to audition! If you need special services, assistance, or appropriate modifications to fully participate, please let us know when emailing to sign up for your audition slot. We are more than happy to accommodate.
We are casting for the following roles:
Lizzie Borden- (20s-40s) female presenting - Mezzo-soprano, younger daughter of the Borden household. She has a duality of tenderness and rage, and is deeply traumatized. Actor will have to explore themes of sexual assault and death. On stage intimacy
Emma Borden - (late 20s-50s) female presenting - Mezzo- soprano, Lizzie’s older sister. She is level headed and sharp, and will do what she has to to protect her sister.
Alice Russell- (20s-40s) female presenting - Soprano, Lizzie and Emma’s next door neighbor. She loves Lizzie deeply and wants to lead Lizzie away from a path of destruction. On stage intimacy
Bridget Sullivan - (20s-40s) - female presenting - Alto The Borden family’s maid. She hears and sees everything. She is as resentful of the Borden sisters as she is of their parents. Irish accent required.
The roles of Lizzie and Alice are both sapphic characters. We encourage members of the LGBTQIA2S community to audition.
Performers must live in the Missoula area. They should be able to sing and harmonize. Previous musical theater experience is recommended, and the ability to read music is required as this is a fully sung-through musical.
Auditions will be held on August 15th from 2-5pm at The Western Montana LGBTQ Community Center with callbacks starting immediately after general auditions, depending on turnout. We want to be as efficient with everyone’s time as possible, so please email us at [email protected] to SIGN UP for a 10 minute audition spot.
Auditionees will be asked to prepare two contrasting 16-32 bar (or 30-60 second) cuts. One should be musical theater (from Lizzie
or another show), the other should be a contemporary Rock song. Please bring clearly marked music for our accompanist for the musical theater piece or a Karaoke track. For the Rock song, please bring a Karaoke track to sing along with. Folks called back will be asked to sing sides from the show. Sides will be emailed to you once you have signed up for an audition slot. Although this is not a dance heavy show, there will be a group dance call during callbacks, so wear clothing you can move in.
The first rehearsal will occur at the end of August. The exact rehearsal schedule is TBD with our rehearsal space, but there will be rehearsals Saturday and Sunday evenings.
All positions will be guaranteed a $250 stipend and a percentage of the show's profits. If you have any questions, concerns, or if you can’t make the audition time please DM or email us about submitting a virtual audition.
