Wild Wanders Foraging Walk: Huckleberries! Description:
It’s finally that time of year! I don’t know about you but we’ve been carefully rationing the bottom of our huckleberry bags from last summer and berry season can’t get here fast enough. We're down to the final handful!
We won’t be going far on this wander(we never do) but we will be meeting many plant friends on our way(we always do) to the huckleberry patch so bring your plant guides and your notebook and pen if you’d like and don’t forget buckets, jugs, bags or whatever you prefer for picking berries! We’ll bring some extra gear if it’s your first time.
Anyone that would like to carpool should plan to meet us at the far end of the Grant Creek Town Pump parking lot by 5pm but if you think you might like to stay longer up top to pick more hucks then go ahead and just cruise up to meet us at the entrance to Snowbowl by 5:30pm. Just park outside the gate and please do not block it!
We'll start off by sharing a bit about who we are and why wild food and medicine is such an important part of our lives before letting the rest of the group introduce themselves. After some brief housekeeping we will start our wander which will be under one mile in total but will involve some moderate uphill. We generally discuss 20-30 different plants and fungi on our wanders and only harvest as a group when populations are abundant enough to support it.
