Arb Tour: History- UM's Architecture & Urban Forest
11:00 AM (America/Denver)
University of Montana
Arb Tour: History- UM's Architecture & Urban Forest Description:
Join Philip Maechling, historic preservationist, and Adam Coe, UM certified arborist, to learn about the evolution of the campus from a few buildings on a treed oval in a small town, to a campus, historic district, and arboretum in a small city.

What are the challenges to trees (species, location, soil, micro-climate, pollution, construction) and benefits of trees (material, social, psychological, environmental, health) in the built environment? What steps should we take now and for the future of trees in the State of Montana Arboretum, our communities and yards to maximize human benefits along with health of our Arboretum and Urban Forests.

The tour will begin at 11 a.m. in “the Root” just north of Main Hall and west of the University Center. There will be plenty of time for questions. The tour is planned for about 1-1/2 hours, but can go a little longer for those interested.
