Técnica de la Danza Moderna Cubana - Also known as
Cuban Modern Dance Technique

Created by Arnaldo Patterson and developed into a codified technique by Ramiro Guerra Suarez, this dance technique is meant to train/make the Cuban Modern dancer. Elements from Classical Ballet and North American dance techniques created by Martha Graham, José Limón, Doris Humphrey, and Lester Horton are the foundation. This technique also incorporates elements from Flamenco, African dances, and Cuban Folklore, all creating a unique melange. Executed to African rhythms and sometimes chanting, it emphasizes tempo, phrasing and syncopation to maximize its performative aspects. This particular technique requires constant awareness of the space, as the practitioners are encouraged to further their individual artistry.

About Bruno Augusto

Bruno lived in Havana, Cuba, from 1991 to 1997. He trained and received a diploma at the Escuela Nacional de Danza Moderna y Folklórica, and later performed with Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, during his pre-professional practices. He returned to his country of birth, where he started learning ballet at age 5, and worked for Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Angola, as a teacher, choreographer, and dancer, touring throughout Africa, and Portugal. In 1998 he moved to the United States to continue his dance career, and along the way obtained a BFA in dance from Towson University, and a MFA in dance from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Mr Augusto performed predominantly on the East coast, and later in the bay area of San Fransisco, CA. Bruno continues to create and perform through music, movement, and poetry. He has an artistic partnership K B with his wife and artist Kate Jordan, and together, they are the co-founding directors of a Missoula, MT based nonprofit Arts & Above.
