Rediscovering Moby Dick
7:30 PM (America/Denver)
Missoula Public Library
Description:
Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" is a whale of a tale. The novel packs in cetology and the secrets of whalelore, sharp social commentary, anatomy of a global industry, dark desires, mysteries and magic. Moby Dick is a classic of metafiction, weaving together themes that illuminate and transcend time.

Set sail with us for three sessions in June that navigate Melville's deep sea of ideas and stories. Whether picking up the novel for the first time, or returning to it like an old acquaintance, this "zoominar" has something for everyone: fresh a-ha moments, literary scholarship, and friendly engagement. Grab a copy from your dad's stash, the Library, or your local bookstore. We prefer the Penguin Classics edition with Intro by Delblanco, but any edition will do.

This is a virtual program for mature readers, held in conjunction with Missoula Public Library's "Tails & Tales" Summer Learning Program.
To register for the program and Zoom link, please email: kolson@missoula.lib.mt.us.

The program will take place:
June 2, 7:30-8:30PM – Moby Dick Part 1
June 16, 7:30-8:30PM – Moby Dick Part 2
June 30, 7:30-8:30PM – Moby Dick Part 3

Presenter Brady Harrison is a professor at UM, focusing on the study of the North American novel. He has written and edited books on punk rock, Montana poetry, and his own fiction. Brady loves good storytelling, and this contribution to the Library's "Tails and Tales" program is a perfect summer diversion for mature readers.
