Description:
Garnet Day celebrates mining heritage of Montana’s most intact ghost town
(Missoula, Mont.)- The sights, sounds and smells of a 19th- century town will come back to life during this year’s family-friendly Garnet Day June 14, 2025, from 10:30 am - 3:00 pm. The day is filled with educational and fun events for the entire family. Some of the activities include learning about Garnet Ghost Town’s history, panning for gold (fee charged), bidding on a dessert at the pie auction, playing old-fashioned games, enjoying free sarsaparilla and huckleberry ice cream, visiting with the Sheriff, listening to live music, and getting creative at the pioneer craft table. Lunch will be available for purchase on site. Some activities, such as the pie auction and gold nugget raffle, require cash.
This event is hosted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Garnet Preservation Association (GPA). The day’s events are designed to give families a fun, wild-west experience in one of Montana’s most intact ghost towns, located 35 miles east of Missoula. Parking is very limited, carpooling is recommended.
Bring your GPA membership card or become a GPA member on Garnet Day for free, yearlong admission to Garnet Ghost Town. All GPA members will receive a $5 off coupon for a hamburger meal.
To reach Garnet from Highway 200, turn south on the Garnet Range Road between mile markers 22 and 23 and travel about 11 miles to Garnet Ghost Town. Visitors using I-90 should take the Bearmouth or Drummond exit, then take the Frontage Road to Bear Gulch. Garnet is 10 miles north on Bear Gulch Road. The Bear Gulch Route is significantly steeper and not suitable for towing units.
We look forward to seeing you on Garnet Day! For more information contact garnetghosttown@gmail.com or visit Garnet Ghost Town on Facebook.
