2021 Summer Music Camps

Welcome to the University of Montana Summer Music Camp. Since 1952, we have been offering the summer camp that has become a tradition for Montanans and many from around the country. Music camp is a great time to interact with student musicians from around the region while learning from UM's music faculty. Whether you are a serious all-state level musician or someone who just loves playing, the UM Summer Music Camp has a place for you. We offer five different camps for students of all abilities from middle school through graduating high school seniors.

Our camp staff is made up of UM School of Music faculty as well as invited guest experts who are passionate about sharing their artform with future generations of musicians. Our counselors are UM School of Music students who assist in instruction, sectionals, activities and supervision. Most of the counselors were once Summer Camp participants and they work hard to create an experience that you will enjoy as much as they did.

We pride ourselves on providing a safe, fun, and musical environment that encourages all of our campers to achieve their very best. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

COVID19 Protocol
All of the UM Music family is concerned about creating a fun, creative and safe environment for all participants. Campers are required to follow the COVID19 protocols established by the UM School of Music which are based on the recommendations of the scientific study funded jointly by the National Federation of State High School Associations and the College Band Directors National Association. Even though transmission rates have dropped significantly, we will still adhere to these protocols ensure safety.

Masks are required for all indoor activities. Specialized performance masks are required while playing wind instruments and/or singing. If you do not own a performance mask they will be available for purchase at registration. The additional cost is not included in the price of the camp.
Bell Covers: Bell covers for all wind instruments except for flutes are required.
Air Purification: The UM School of Music purchased 40 portable air purification units which will be used in small to medium sized instructional spaces.
Outdoor vs. Indoor: We will take advantage of the three outdoor tents as instructional space. Indoor spaces will have ample cubic volume. Rehearsal breaks will be more often than usual to allow for increased air circulation.
Spacing: All activities will have six-foot spacing between participants.
