Description:
At this special Artists Talk, Lily Kip shares insight into her exhibition "Causing A Scene", on display at the ZACC during May.
Lily is figurative oil painter completing her MFA at the University of Montana. A lifelong lover of both art and literature, her current work engages expressive painting and broken visual narratives to express split-second interpersonal interactions. She was raised primarily in Massachusetts and has been a painter since age three. After transitioning from fingers and tempera to brushes and oils, she received a Bachelor's Degree from Bates College in Maine and is now completing a Master's of Fine Arts at the University of Montana. In the intervening years, Kip has worked as a brewhouse tour guide, arts camp teacher, personal nanny, pub waitress, and pet portraitist.
During her master's Kip has taught Drawing I, Painting I, and assisted in Figure Drawing and Art History. Her paintings have been published in ArtyPants Magazine and the I Like Your Work Catalog. She has shown pieces at the 28th and 29th Annual Student Juried Shows, Allez! Outdoor Art Gallery, and the Zootown Arts Community Center's 2024 Mini Show. In 2023, she co-founded the Lovechild Gallery project, acting as Treasurer and Legal Coordinator. Most recently she has been awarded an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant to support a six-month expansion of her Master's Thesis work.
