Calling all history enthusiasts! 4HistoryBuffs at MPL is held on the last Friday of each month from 7-9 PM. Join guest speakers for lively and entertaining presentations of historical interest. This month’s presentation is entitled “Homesteading on the High Plains” with presenter Lee Silliman. Mr. Silliman will provide an overview of the frontier settlers who advanced upon the high plains with great expectations that their labor and dedication to tilling the soil would eventually be rewarded with land ownership. Their saga is one of triumph and tragedy. He will also discuss The Homestead Act, signed by Abraham Lincoln on May 20, 1862, and how it was a major factor in the agricultural development of the West.
