Description:
In-person tour, Wednesday, May 20, 10 - 12:30, Jocko River Trout Hatchery, Arlee, MT. Fee $25 ( one-time annual MOLLI membership fee of $40). A walking tour of the Jocko River Trout Hatchery (JRTH), home the Arlee strain of rainbow trout. Discussions will include the JRTH role in state-wide fisheries management, hatchery design and management, the history of the hatchery and the Arlee strain, maintenance of genetic diversity within the population of Arlee rainbow trout, and anywhere the discussion leads. We will have a hands-on fish segment where we will take weights and lengths of the two-year-old brood stock and discuss fish growth.
About Presenter: Jeff Lammerding has worked for Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks for 28 years, most of that time at the Jocko River Trout Hatchery. Born and raised in Havre, and a graduate of MSU-Northern and the University of Montana, Lammerding has an intimate knowledge of the history and workings of the hatchery and its world-famous Arlee rainbow broodstock.
