4 Ravens Gallery "tiny voices" varnished and raw Description:
“tiny voices” varnished and raw First Friday Opening May 3, 5-8 PM.

Eric Ryan France Simmons is a metal artist who graduated from Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of the nation's leading graduate schools for architecture, art, and design. Simmons has lived in Missoula for six years and has been divorced from the Art World for ten years. This show is his reconciliation with it by creating art for himself and having fun with it. Using steel Simmons brings warmth and vibrance to this cold and rigid material.

“We all have tiny voices in our head. Some are funny, some are ugly, some we share- others we try to hide from even ourselves. They tell us what to do and what we should have done. They are the reason we can feel good about ourselves one minute, and then disappointment the next. They tell us whether to steal the candy bar or not. They are embedded so deep within our psyche that we don’t even recognize them. They are sticky and pointy, they are varnished and raw- but most of all they are forever changing like rust degrading over time. “

When he is not making art (which is usually), he is spending time outside with his wife and ten month old baby. You might also find him creating cocktails to put on a menu, or cutting his lawn in an odd design, or hanging a wig on the ceiling of his living room for no reason at all (his wife’s personal favorite).
