4HistoryBuffs: Western Montana's African American Community 1870-1940
6:00 PM (America/Denver)
Missoula Public Library
Description:
Calling all history enthusiasts! Join guest speakers for lively and entertaining presentations of historical
interest. This month there will be a discussion on how for much of Western Montana’s history, the story of
the region’s African American communities has been one that was dominated by the legacy of the Buffalo
Soldiers. Recent research, however, has uncovered that the African American communities of Hamilton and
Missoula contributed significantly to the urban landscape and local histories between 1870-1940. For the
first time here are their collective stories.
