Forgiveness: Presentation and Discussion Description:
Dr. Veronica I. Johnson, Ed.D., LCPC, NCC, associate professor and department chair of the Department of Counselor Education at The University of Montana will be hosting a presentation and discussion on “Forgiveness” on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center, 519 S. Higgins Ave., Missoula. Dr. Johnson teaches a course on forgiveness and reconciliation for the Davidson Honors College at the University of Montana, and offered to share her invaluable expertise on the topic with the Missoula community.

Forgiveness is a vital part of peacemaking, both with ourselves and with each other. Dr. Johnson will share how forgiveness helps with creating healthy relationships, improving communication, enhancing our self-worth, and tolerating the frustrations, transgressions and tragedies we face in life. She will discuss definitions of forgiveness and address difficult questions such as, “Are some things too horrible to forgive?” and “Who has the right to forgive?”

Dr. Johnson emphasizes the individual process of forgiveness and how it is an active choice we each must make for ourselves and work towards. We will learn how to approach conversations about forgiveness with others and the skill of making a good apology. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss perspectives.

We invite people to come discover a deeper understanding of forgiveness and how it can impact our well-being and relationships.

This event is free and open to the public.
