Description:
1.5-hour, 6-week course on Thursdays, April 9 - May 14. Fee $70 ( one-time annual MOLLI membership fee of $40). Offered in-person and remotely. Instructor: Madison Dapcevich. In the last five years, the world has faced an unprecedented level of mis- and disinformation online as more than half of the global population uses social media in some capacity. This course will equip students with the tools they need to spot digital hoaxes, nefarious actors, intentionally placed rumors, and other clues to indicate mis- and disinformation online. Students will learn how to identify the internet’s most pervasive digital threats, including deepfakes, copypasta, troll bait, and coordinated inauthentic behavior. The tools acquired in this course will help participants navigate the complex and intricate digital landscape of the internet and become better-informed citizens. This course is beneficial to students interested in journalism, science reporting, and social media management.
