The Botany of Herbal Medicine Workshop
1:00 PM (America/Denver)
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UM (MOLLI)
The Botany of Herbal Medicine Workshop Description:
1.5-hour, 6-week, in-person, workshop on Wednesdays, April 8 - May 13, 1 - 2:30 pm. Fee $90 ( one-time annual MOLLI membership fee of $40). Iincludes all supplies needed for this offering. Herbal medicine seems to be gaining in popularity, but what is it, and how can it help us? Does it really have a scientific basis? In this dynamic and hands-on course – part botany lecture and part hands-on workshop – we’ll explore the botanical underpinnings for the science and efficacy of herbal medicine. We’ll start out with a basic overview of botany, including plant taxonomy, evolution, adaptations, and identification tips. We’ll then discuss a number of common medicinal herbs – both cultivated and native to western Montana – highlighting chemical constituents, medicinal properties, and the ethics of collecting. Throughout the course, you will participate in guided, hands-on herbal medicine-making, and you will leave the class with two high quality herbal remedies, handmade and personalized just for you!
