A Healthy Business: Rural Entrepreneurs in Kenya Description:
Global Public Health Lecture Series: “A "Healthy" Business: Evaluation of a Program for Rural Entrepreneurs in with Social Safety Nets in East Africa” by Catherine Sanders, PhD, Director & Evaluation Consultant with Expanding Opportunities of Kenya.

Catherine will speak to the evaluation of a BRAC-USA program to promote mentor-supported, sustainable business ventures among the "ultra poor" women and youth in Kenya's remote regions. The Government of Kenya, local implementing partners, a technical assistance organization, and thousands of Kenyan villagers combined forces to create a program to "graduate" people from poverty by addressing the multifaceted challenges facing rural people. The talk will show how evaluation data can be brought to bear on multi-stakeholder program interventions targeting socioeconomic, health, and sustainability goals, both in terms of strengths and limitations to the approach.
