Hot Club Jazz in the L Q Underground Description:
Attention Missoula! Coming this Saturday - for the first time since the ZACC relocated from the Northside - the basement space in the Leaf Quiet building, now called The Underground, is reopening for social gatherings, art markets, live music and more!

We are excited to kick-off the reopening of this nostalgic space in an historic railroad building located at 235 North 1st Street West with The Jive – a hot club jazz band from Missoula, Montana.

Hot Club Jazz, also known as Gypsy Jazz or jazz manouche, is a vibrant style of swing jazz originating in 1930’s Paris, popularized by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli of the Quintette du Hot Club de France. This style of music is characterized by acoustic instrumentation—typically lead guitar, rhythm guitars, violin, and bass—without drums, featuring high-energy, improvised, and rhythmic swing, blending Roma musical traditions with American swing.

This is a jazz scene like nothing Missoula has experienced in an environment reminiscent of the Speakeasies popularized during the prohibition era in the United Sates (1920 – 1933); all wrapped up in a cozy underground vibe in a railroad building as old as 1915, itself.

Think velvet furniture, deep jeweled tones, dark corners and a secretive vibe.

So, bring your dancing shoes to help rejuvenate a long-loved space that has a long history of hosting music as far back as the 1980’s, and maybe even longer.

To help keep live music alive in alternative venues, please consider donating $10-15.

See you there, Missoula!
