The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is thrilled to announce that its next production class, Once on this Island JR., will begin Tuesday, February 19. Designed especially for performers in grades 7-12, the classes for this inspiring musical will be Tuesdays-Thursdays from 4-6 PM until the week of the performances, when classes will be March 18-20 (Monday-Wednesday). The performances will be Thursday and Friday, March 21 & 22 at 7:00 PM, and Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.

Once on this Island JR. is part of the Music Theatre International (MTI) Broadway Junior Collection®, MTI’s special collection of musicals for younger performers, which includes “JR.” titles. An adaptation of The Little Mermaid, Once on this Island takes place in the Caribbean. Ti Moune, a peasant girl, falls in love with Daniel, a fortunate son of a wealthy family that lives on the other side of the island. To test her love for Daniel, Ti Moune is sent on a quest by the island gods. Through a tapestry of exhilarating dance and music, Ti Moune is challenged to confront the dark forces of prejudice, hatred, and death.

A captivating and colorful show, Once on this Island received the 2018 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, along with 8 other nominations. Written by powerhouse Broadway songwriting duo Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Seussical and Ragtime), Once on this Island first hit Broadway in 1991, when it received 8 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score.
