Black-out History - Aja Mujinga Sherrard // January 18

Join University of Montana Western professor of art history Aja Mujinga Sherrard to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the movement for civil rights. It is an old artistic tradition that to decorate is to honor. Taking cues from contemporary artists such as Titus Kaphur and Kehinde Wiley, illuminated manuscripts, and blackout poetry, participants apply processes of selective masking and/or illumination to historical images and the speeches of Dr. King to create mixed-media paintings and collage.
