Rattlesnake Stories: Tales of the Upper Rattlesnake

What do you know of the early residents of the Upper Rattlesnake? Join us as we learn about the homesteaders of German, Scottish, Irish, and Swedish descent who began to settle in the Rattlesnake Valley above Sawmill Gulch beginning in the 1880s. Though they were gone by the mid-1930s, bought out by the Montana Power Company, traces of their presence remain: abutments for the Effinger Bridge, the nearly mile-long Effinger Ditch, several Neely foundations, an impressive Poe cellar., and some reminders of the tragic Wallman family. And then there’s “Coyote Bill” Beeskove, one of the Valley’s most notorious residents…
