As
part of its third annual Environmental Ethics Institute in early August
of 2008, the Center for Ethics at the University of Montana is pleased
to host leading ecofeminist scholar and activist Karen Warren. Warren
will teach a two day workshop for scholars, students, professionals,
and interested citizens on issues of gender and environment. Warren is
perhaps the most well-known ecofeminist practicing in the United States
today and author of numerous books and articles including Ecofeminist Philosophy: A Western Perspective on What it Is and Why it Matters (Rowman and Littlefield, 2000), Ecofeminism: Women, Culture, and Nature (Indiana University Press, 1997), Ecological Feminist Philosophies
(Indiana University Press, 1996), and the classic article "The Power
and Promise of Ecological Feminism." In addition to these works in
ecofeminism, Warren is completing a book titled Gendering the History of Western Philosophy,
the first ever text on western philosophy from a feminist perspective.
Warren will give an evening public lecture on her latest work on
Thursday, July 31st.
The workshop
will provide a valuable perspective on how environmental issues
intersect with issues of gender and justice. It can be taken for
college credit, continuing education, or simply for general interest.
