Field trip to view raptors wintering in Mission Valley
8:00 AM    Mission Valley

Description:
Five Valleys Audubon will view raptors and other wintering birds in the Mission Valley. Meet in the middle of the UM Field House parking lot at 8 a.m. for carpooling or at the Cenex station on the south side of Ronan at 9 a.m. The trip is free and open to the public; bring a lunch.

At this time of year the Mission Valley draws one of the highest concentrations of wintering birds of prey in the western United States. A birder will not see as many raptors in the spring or early fall, and there is now a chance to see more unusual species. Raptors that might be seen include Rough-legged Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Harrier, and owls, falcons, and eagles.
