Gallery Saintonge is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibit Deduction, Speculation and Fantasy with works by Jane Waggoner Deschner. Deschner’s work conceptually weaves aspects of photography, painting, found object and design, among other areas of categorization, while defying any particular classification.
For over 20 years, Deschner has utilized found photographs as a premise in her work. The form varying as greatly as the subjects of the photos, Deschner transforms the content of the found images to suggest a sometimes poetic, sometimes playful, sometimes conceptualized interpretation. In her underneath series, much like works by the conceptual artist John Baldessari, vibrant, solid-colored shapes are juxtaposed on top of black and white photos calling attention to subject as sort of anti-subject, directing the viewer’s attention to some sort of quirk or multiple meaning. In Deschner’s maxim series, she combines embroidered quotes of famous people with found studio portraits of people, reinforcing a pointed idea or thought.
Jane Waggoner Deschner currently resides in Billings, Montana. Her work has been exhibited primarily in the West for the past 20 years. Aside from working as an artist, Deschner also is a curator, teacher, writer, designer and editor. Much of her work addresses the arts in connectedness with healing and health.
