Charity Film Premier: "The Queen's Wings"
7:00 PM    Granite County Museum

Description:
A Montana filmmaker's documentary on a little known pastime of England's Royal Family will help to send three local high school students to Australia. International award-winning writer/director Jim Jenner, will show his latest film, "The Queen's Wings" at the Granite County Museum (on Sansome Street in historic downtown Philipsburg) at 7 PM, Saturday, February 9th. "The Queen's Wings" is 71 minutes long and will be proceed by a ten-minute short. Jenner, as well as other Montana filmmakers who helped him with the documentary, will be on hand to discuss the making of the film.

All proceeds from the donation-based ticket sales will support Kyra Brabender, Tyler Gentry and Jennie Berry's educational tour to Australia in July. Brabender, Gentry and Berry must each raise $8,000 to take part in this 17-day Australia trip. In addition to making a donation of any amount to attend the premier, moviegoers can purchase a $10 raffle ticket for a quilt made by Charlene Bucha-Gentry. Only 200 tickets will be sold for the full-sized, handmade quilt. They will draw for the winner after all the tickets are sold.

"The Queen's Wings" tells the story of an epic pigeon race from France held to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in June of 2012. Jenner was invited by the Midlands National Flying Club, which counts Her Majesty as an active member, to be the official documentarian of this historic event. Since she was crowned 60-years ago Queen Elizabeth has carried on her family's long running tradition of raising and caring for homing pigeons at their Sandringham Estate. The pigeon racing sport, popular around the world, is especially poignant in England, where since 1886 working people have been able to compete against their Sovereign in races involving thousands of thoroughbred birds. The film also profiles a few of the 700 racing teams, rich and poor, who entered birds in the event as well as its unexpected and heartwarming outcome.
