Adapted to Famine Workshop with Shan Guisinger
2:00 PM    Red Willow Learning Center

Description:
Adapted to Famine workshop with Shan Guisinger
at the Red Willow Learning Center, Missoula MT

Adapted to Famine: How evolutionary adaptations structure eating disorders and obesity. Help your clients understand their symptoms and take back their lives. This workshop presents a radical and healing approach to understanding and treating problems with food and eating. Few people realize the extent to which today's eating problems are the result of activating our bodies many ancient adaptations to famine. Clients tell me that a turning point in their recovery came when they understood why their body foiled their attempts to eat normally. In this confusing situation people need more than vague references to unspecified physical and genetic factors. They need to understand why and how a previously reliable body and mind is making them sick. In the case of anorexia their mind deceives them about their physical state and compels them to limit food; in the case of binge eating disorder and bulimia it pushes them to gorge. This workshop will teach effective interventions to help clients develop and maintain healthy and regular eating and exercise habits, develop positive body image and make peace with the bodies they have.
