Join us for a panel discussion on the ethical implications of Baxter v. Montana
The Montana Supreme Court heard arguments on September 2, 2009, in Baxter v. Montana, the case in which a lower court recognized the right of terminally ill, mentally competent adult Montanans to choose aid in dying under the State Constitution. The Montana Supreme Court will consider whether to uphold the landmark decision issued last December by First Judicial Court Judge Dorothy McCarter
Panelists:
Scott Crichton is the Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana
Mark J. Hanson, Ph.D., is a lecturer in Liberal Studies at the University of Montana and adjunct associate professor in Health Professions at the University's College of Technology. Prior to coming to Montana, Dr. Hanson was Associate for Ethics and Society at The Hastings Center, a bioethics research institute in Garrison, New York.
Con Kelly is a Montana native. He holds a Ph.D from Laval University, Quebec, Canada and a J.D. from the University of Montana. For over twenty years he served as ethicist for two multi-state health care systems in Ohio and Colorado. Currently retired, he is a program consultant for Centura Health, Denver, Colorado.
