NewWest.Net Hosts Summer Arts and Leadership Camp's "Photo Voice"
In August, NewWest.Net and New West gallery are hosting a showcase of photographic artwork from the Summer Arts and Leadership campers, entitled “Photo Voice: A Day in Our Lives.”
The show will open with a First Friday opening reception on August 1 from 5-9 p.m.
“Photo Voice: A Day in Our Lives” is a collection of photos taken by campers in WORD’s (Women’s Opportunities and Resource Development) arts and leadership camp. The campers were given disposable cameras and asked to document the parts of their lives that are important to them. They then picked one picture they particularly liked, were given the option of using photo-editing software to manipulate their images, and wrote a caption to accompany their photo.
The Summer Arts and Leadership day camp is a partner of the Missoula County Public School District and is held at one of the local schools each summer. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, structured and fun summer for the Missoula youth community that may otherwise be unable to have access to such programming. Kids take part in a variety of activities at camp, including hiking, rafting, horseback riding, backpacking, rock climbing, music, crafts and fine arts, including the Photo Voice Project.
