Three Missoula musicians present an evening of interconnected, original compositions. The Captain Wilson Conspiracy features DR Halsell, guitar, Keaton Wilson, keyboards, and Steve Kalling, doublebass, each bringing diverse musical interests and experiences to the mix.
Often heard playing mostly acoustic jazz, Electrickeries explores the wild energies of electrified and modified sounds. Using the four polestars of Consonance, Dissonance, the Acoustic, and the Electric to steer by, the trio navigates through an original song cycle in two acts, exploring the improvisational spaces within and between the compositions.
The concert will be performed in two sets with an extended intermission, allowing audience members to enjoy food and drinks available from The Silk Road. There will be a cash bar in the theater.
From the band: "We're aiming for something that moves from nearly pure acoustic beauty to wild electronica swirls, and back- finding peace in electronic sounds, chaos in the acoustic, and everything else in all the shifting juxtapositions."
Who are these guys:
We started playing together in various permutations more than two years ago, in more conventional jazz gig contexts (i.e. cocktail and dinner music). We each have diverse musical interests and experiences (with bands as diverse as The Lifers, Zeppo, The Whizpops, Cash for Junkers, The Discount Quartet, Jazz Guise, Northern Lights, La Pachanga¦ to name just a few.
Together we share a love of jazz and the improvisational freedom implicit in the genre, as well as modern and even pop sounds and textures. As The Captain Wilson Conspiracy we enjoy the opportunity to explore and fuse these interests, styles and textures. Electrickeries provides us with a chance to delve more deeply into these possibilities by playing original, programmatic work across an entire evening, and in an environment where it's clear the music is the purpose.
